Mary Catherine Simpson

Mary Catherine Simpson, 82, of Edinburg, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at her home.  A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hampton Cemetery in Star Tannery.  Pastor Shelvie Mantz will officiate.

Mrs Simpson was born April 11, 1928 in Star Tannery, daughter of the late Sylvester Andrew and Florence Orndorff Grubbs.  She was a member of Palmyra Church of the Brethren.

Mary had  seven children: Charles Robert Vann (deceased), Lydia Leonard of Strasburg, Shirley Reynolds of Fitzgerald, GA, Florence Ellen Hurst-Mitchell of Arrington, Charles Vann of Strasburg, Nancy Hutcheson of Edinburg and Patricia Whitted of Edinburg;  a sister, Twyla Boaz of Star Tannery; step daughter, Carol Griffith of Winchester ; step son, Eric Simpson of Warrenton and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ira M. Simpson and two brothers, William S. Grubbs and Andrew J. Grubbs.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Leonard, Eric Simpson, Joey Reynolds, Wayne Mitchell, Noah Hurst and Jason Clem.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.

    Dear Family,
    Your Mother was a dear and caring person. She was such a blessing to my Dad, Ira, when he needed someone. I will never forget how loving and devoted she was to him, whether he was well or sick. We spent some precious times together during good times and bad times. We will see them again some day in a heavenly place more glorious then we can ever imagine. May God Bless all of you and give you peace until that day comes.

    I was so saddened to hear Momma Vann had passed away. She was such a dear lady and will certainly be missed. She sure put up with alot from the 3 of us!
