Alma Gladys Carper George

Alma Gladys Carper George, 86, of Edinburg, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at Winchester Medical Center.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.  Reverends Katie Gosswein and John F. Taylor Jr. will officiate.

Mrs. George was born July 23, 1925 in Palmyra, VA,  daughter of the late William Lee and Mae Ritenour Carper.  She was a loving housewife and mother.  She was a member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for 21 years and was very active in the LCW of the church.  She belonged to the Retiree’s Club ACTWU 371-T.

Alma is survived by her husband, Pete George, (a US army veteran of World War II who served in the South Pacific)  whom she married on May 18, 1945; four children, Sharon George of Lorton, VA, Gary E. George and his wife, Dianne Null George of Conicville, VA, Rhonda George and her companion, Helmut Pusch of Fairfax, VA, and Bobbi Lynn Ward and her husband, Scott of Edinburg, VA; ten grandchildren,  Michael Kingree, Pete Kingree, Dana George Lisico, Aimee R. George, Briana Hedden, James Montgomery, Chris Lam, Jason Lam (deceased), Casey Ward and Christian Ward and ten great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Raymond, Madeline, Alvin and Jon.

Pallbearers will be James Montgomery, Chris Lam, Pete Kingree, Casey Ward, Christian Ward, Helmut Pusch and Scott McGowan.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WELCA of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 175, Edinburg, VA 22824.
