Alvin C. Hamman, 94, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Memory Lane of Skyline Terrace Nursing Home in Woodstock. The funeral will be held Friday, December 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Strasburg United Methodist Church in Strasburg. Reverend John B. Haynes Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock.
Mr. Hamman was born April 20, 1920 in Needmore, WV, son of the late Joseph William Hamman and Hazel Day Wilkins Hamman. He worked for 36 years as a shovel operator for a stone quarry in Middletown, VA. He was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church where he could always be heard ringing the bell, the Strasburg United Methodist Men and a hunt club in Middletown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Turah Long Hamman; brother, Lee Hamman and sisters, Juanita Himelright and Wilma Ryman.
He is survived by his step daughter, Beverly Jett of Woodstock; three sisters, Gladys Garrett of Delaware, Genevieve Rager of Front Royal and Lily Zirkle of Maurertown; two step grandchildren, Dianna Jett and Tammy Andes; three step great grandchildren, John Andes, Olivia Donald and Jett Herron; four step great great grandchildren, Marley Andes, Parker Andes, Jasper Andes and Grace Donald; numerous nieces and nephews and two special caregivers, Becky Hoover and Sheila Payan.
Pallbearers will be John Andes, Benny Andes, Eugene Hamman , Henry Himelright, James Malone, Kenny Rinker, Donnie Vaughn, Willie Mitchell and Webb Donald.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Alvin was a wonderful husband, father, brothers as well as an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
