Annie E Emswiller, 101 years old, of Woodstock, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, after a short illness.
She was born March 12, 1913, in the Fort Valley, the daughter of the late Albert Mayberry and Sarah Ann (Sally) Ritenour McClanahan. Annie was the last survivor of ten siblings.
Annie was the widow of the late Fred Raymond Emswiller Sr., and the proud Mother of Marian E Penton, Woodstock; Fred R. Emswiller Jr (deceased); Sarah Ann Williams (Bill), Tucson, Az; and Vickie Helsley (Freddie), Woodstock. Ella C. Emswiller Hall, Harrisonburg, Va is her daughter-in-law.
Her grandchildren include Kevin Foltz (Anita), Edinburg; Mitchel Emswiller (Anne), deceased; Martin Emswiller (Kim), Maurertown; Lynn Davis, Woodstock; Erica Thomas (Brian), Myrtle Beach, SC ; Carla Padron (Daniel), Atlanta, Ga; Matthew Helsley (Kay), Ashland, Ohio; and Andrew Helsley, Woodstock. Annie has two step-grandchildren, Carlton Custer (Lydia), Jamestown, NC, and Adrian Custer (Brooke), Hagerstown, Md.
Annie’s great-grandchildren include Atina Foltz Coffman (Scott); Rachel and Michael Emswiller; Tiffany Gesford (Sam); Ashley, Joshua, David, Bethany, Jordan and Annie Marie Emswiller; Chelsea and Daphne Davis; Stephanie Davis, deceased; Hunter Helsley; Claire and Wade Custer; and Drew and Blake Custer.
The fifth generation, great-great-grandchildren are Scott Coffman, Jr, Rachel Coffman, and Milo Gesford.
Annie was a faithful member of the Maurertown Brethren Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Deaconess. She belonged to the Women’s Missionary Society, and was a sponsor of the Sisterhood of Mary and Martha.
She was a well-known and accomplished seamstress whose custom-made draperies and slipcovers graced many homes, churches and businesses throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Annie gladly shared this talent and taught others how to sew professionally-made draperies and slipcovers.
Annie’s caregivers at home for the past five years were Leannah Comer, and Carolyn Fisher. They have her family’s gratitude and thanks for their dedicated and excellent care.
Family visitation night will be at Dellinger’s Funeral Home, Main St., Woodstock, from 6-8 PM, Friday night, October 10.
Funeral service at Maurertown Brethren Church, with Rev. Richard Craver officiating, will be held on Saturday, October 11, at 11 AM.
Pallbearers will be David Emswiller, Jordan Emswiller, Matthew DeCourcy, Stephen Hedrick, Alvin Vann, and Calvin Vann.
Interment will be in Massanutten Cemetery, Woodstock, immediately following the funeral.
