Avery D. “Arkie” Short, Jr.

Avery D. “Arkie” Short Jr, 92 of Woodstock passed away, Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Skyline Terrace Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held, Friday, July 18 at 11:00 A.M. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Reverend Robert Hoskins will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery.

Mr. Short was born August 15, 1921 in Little Rock Arkansas. Son of the late Avery Short Sr., and Med Fields Short. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Woodstock American Legion Post # 199. He married Mary Lou Blake on March 16, 1950.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Short; 2 daughters, Linda Sue Freeman and husband Curt of Florida, and Vicki Lynn Thompson of Woodstock; 5 grandchildren, Aaron Krasting, Karie Thurston, Stephanie Martinez-Ruckman, Jennifer Goostree, and Bradley Martinez; 6 great grandchildren, Michael Krasting, Tyler Krasting, Christopher Krasting, Blake Wilkinson, Campbell Ruckman, and Kaylee Martinez.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Kelly.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
