Betty Jane Wright Shrum

Betty Jane Wright Shrum, 93 devoted wife and mother, of Woodstock, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November, 19, 2011 at Dutch Haven Adult Care Residence.  Betty was born September 14, 1918 in Woodstock, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin “Buck” Shrum;  parents, Wade and Emma Crabill Wright; and brothers, Ford and Stanley Wright.  She was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Donna Sue Shrum, and grandson, Daniel Irvin Shrum.

She is survived by three sons, William L. Shrum and wife Nancy of Woodstock; Donald W. Shrum and wife Linda of Spotsylvania, Virginia; and Richard I. Shrum and wife Kim of Woodstock. She is also survived by grandchildren John Shrum, Barry Shrum, Vanessa Shrum Peek, Suzanne Shrum Saunders, Wendy Shrum Stapleton, Josh Shrum and Jenna Shrum Robinson and 8 great- grandchildren. Betty is also survived by a special niece, Cindy Wright and nephews Stanley and Kenny Wright.

Betty worked for many years at Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital as well as The New York Restaurant. She enjoyed camping, cooking, canning, sewing and visiting with friends and family.  She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church in Woodstock, Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday, November 21st at the Dellinger Funeral Home Chapel in Woodstock.

A service will be held at the Woodstock United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 22nd at 10:30 am with Reverend David A. Rash officiating.  Pallbearers will be John Shrum, Barry Shrum, Josh Shrum, Kenny Wright, Stanley Wright, Wayne Hottle, Nelson Hottle, and Chuck Hepner.

Burial will be at Sunset View Memorial Garden following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodstock United Methodist Church.

    I will always remember camping with Ms. Betty and Mr. Buck – and spending lots of evenings at their house while my mom and dad played dominos. May they rest in peace together in heaven – I know that Mr. Buck has been waiting a long time for her. She will be missed – but her memories and sweet smile will live on in my heart forever.
