Charles “Buck” Edward McKenzie,Sr.

Charles “Buck” Edward McKenzie, Sr., 83, of Luray and formerly of Quicksburg, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mr. McKenzie was born February 3, 1929 in Quicksburg, son of the late George Melvin and Florence Emma Leath McKenzie.

He was a member of Quicksburg United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann McKenzie whom he married September 3, 1963. He is also survived by two daughters, Sandra Coverstone of Edinburg, Deborah Brown and Troy Swartwout of Stephens City; three sons, Charles E. McKenzie, Jr. and wife Mary Jane of Luray, George McKenzie of Stanley and Harry McKenzie and wife Laurie of Luray; three sisters, Doris Henry, Lorraine Vann both of Mt. Jackson and Madia Irvin of Quicksburg; a brother, Terry McKenzie of Mt. Jackson; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers, James, Harry, Rodney and George McKenzie.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with the Rev. Michael Dettmer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Jackson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Bowman, Billy Brown, Michael Jenkins, Patrick Henry, Josh McKenzie and David Vann. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Jones and Guy Custer.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Grandaddy….there are no words to describe how much i am going to miss you…you were the best of the best…so strong and so silly all the time…i remember when i was in elementary school and you and grandma lived in woodstock…you would pick me up from school and we would go to mcdonalds and then the ice cream stand…grandma would come home and say “now buck why did you pick her up? That kid aint sick!!!” lol….i will miss u so much and i cant wait to tell abby and the kiddo on the way all the memories and stories i have with you…you will always be in my heart and i will think of you everyday…and remember its not goodbye its see you later! love u always!!!
