Daryle “Billy” Franklin Minnick, Jr. 69, of Stafford and formally of Mt. Jackson, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 in Stafford, VA.
He was born January 8, 1947 in Woodstock, Virginia, son of the late Daryle Franklin Minnick Sr. and Stella Irene Hansberger Minnick Bailey.
He was in the United States Army in Vietnam and was awarded a Good Conduct Ribbon, Vietnam Medal, Two Presidential Citations, Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart.
He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 36 years of service.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4488 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 2165.
He is survived by four children, Daryle Minnick III and wife Lisa of Woodstock, VA, Sherri Byrne and companion Sebastian of Stafford, VA, Terri Wood and husband Nathan of Hoover, AL, Carrie Minnick of Stafford, VA a sister Dottie Hamilton and husband Kenny of Strasburg, VA; and a brother William “Mike” Minnick and wife Judy of Locust Grove, VA.
Nine grandchildren, Anthony Minnick, Gabrielle Hottle-Minnick, Gabrielle Bryne, Christian Montgomery, Collin Wood, Tyler Wood, Robert Minnick-Gollahon, Elison Minnick-Gollahon, and Alison Montgomery. One great granddaughter, Layla Minnick.
Billy enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with the Pastor Everett Burner officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Jackson Cemetery with Military Honors by the National Guard and Muhlenberg Post #199 American Legion Woodstock.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Howard, Jimmy Green, Sebastian Zawidzki, Nathan Wood, Robert Minnick and Andrew Minnick.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service at the funeral home.
