Dr. Stage Edmund Miller, 80, departed this life on January 2, 2013 at his home in Jerome, VA. He was born August 28, 1932, the youngest of eight children, to the late Silas Albert and Ethel Hambleton Miller.
He attended Jerome School and then graduated from Triplett High School in 1951. From an early age, he dedicated himself to becoming a doctor and through hard work and with the aid of scholarships, attended Virginia Tech, graduating with honors in 1955, and then attended the Medical College of Virginia, graduating in 1958 with a degree of Doctor of Medicine. Following graduation, he interned at the Winchester Memorial Hospital. He then chose to practice in his hometown area settling in Mt. Jackson, where he was a family physician for 28 years. He was a true country doctor making house calls and delivering babies. He also served as Coroner of Shenandoah County for a number of years.
Dr. Miller is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Pendleton Jackson Miller, his three daughters; Dabney Schneider and her husband David of Jeffersonton, VA; Elaine Conway and her husband Raymond of Stephens City VA; Stacey Gardner and her husband Christopher of Woodstock, VA; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two siblings, his brother, Holbrook Miller of Vienna, VA; his sister, Edith Miller of Alexandria, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Davis Edmund Miller.
A funeral service for Dr. Miller will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Jackson. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jerome.
