A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home followed by the graveside service on the property of Willard and Freda Riffee on Dysart Road, Woodstock. Reverend Greg Miller and Pastor Freddie Helsley will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Nicholas Riffee, Adam Riffee, Duff Rice, John Archdeacon, Mark Poe, and Johnny Whittington.
Freda Riffee was born March 23, 1938 in Hyden, KY. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Hugh Magee and Mrs. June Magee of Dayton, OH.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons: Maria VanHemert and husband John who reside in Holland, Catherine Archdeacon and husband John, Randall Riffee and wife Sandra, and Daniel Riffee and wife Cristie all from Woodstock.
Freda had 12 grandchildren, Shirley Veelbehr and husband Edwin, Jeffry VanHemert and wife Melissa and Ricky VanHemert all from Holland. Additionally Angela Reed, Christopher Archdeacon and wife Heidi, the late Jeremy Sherman, Brandy and husband Frank Grassi, Andrew Riffee, Katie Rice and husband Duff, Adam Riffee, Nicholas Riffee and Emily Riffee.
Freda also had nine great-grandchildren Jacob Reed, Grace and Reese Archdeacon, Justin and Ashley Veelbehr, Zoe and Quinty Van Hemert, Madison Riffee and Cooper Rice.
She is survived by brother Reed Morgan and wife Linda and sister Vanda Shelor from Ohio.
Freda was a military wife for 22 years with her now deceased husband Willard who served and retired from the US Air Force in June 1976. Some of their military stations included Arizona, Ohio, Colorado, Libya and Greenland. His last duty station was with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon from August 1972-June 1976.
Freda’s dedication to the US Military did not stop with the retirement of Willard. Durng the recent wars she often sent care packages to the soldiers and prayed for their safety every day. She was a true patriot to the end. Freda also served on the Woodstock Rescue Squad for many years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Her true love was renovating structures with the use of natural stone.
