Hazel Kipps Boyer, 93, of Woodstock, Virginia, died Monday, August 1, 2011 at Greenfield Reflections Nursing Home, Strasburg, Virginia after a long illness.
The family will receive friends on Friday morning, August 5, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, Virginia where a funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Mary Louise Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock.
Mrs. Boyer was born in Woodstock, Virginia on September 20, 1917, the daughter of the late John Melvin (Doc) and Rosa Elizabeth Kipps.
Mrs. Boyer was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Lee Boyer, and her sister, Frances Kipps Saxton.
She is survived by her brother, John William (Bill) Kipps of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sisters, Betty Kipps Price of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and Hilda Kipps Geist of Satellite Beach, Florida; nieces and nephews, Pamela Geist Smith of Montgomery, Alabama, Sandra Geist Foxworth of Atlanta, Georgia, Susan Kipps Sanders of Gainesville, Virginia, Cecelia Brown of Los Angeles, California, Michael Kipps of Annapolis, Maryland, David Price of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and John Price of Chalfont, Pennsylvania.
Hazel served many years as the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Agent in Woodstock and Secretary of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce. She later served as a Shenandoah County Magistrate.
She was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Woodstock Fire Department Auxiliary. Hazel was an avid bridge player and an excellent cook.
The family would like to thank Greenfield Reflections for the great care and comfort they gave Hazel during her stay the past four years.
