Hazel Wilkins Artz

Hazel Wilkins Artz, 93 of Woodstock, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015. A graveside service will held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:30 at Massanutten Cemetery. Reverend Warren Brubaker will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the spring at the farm.

Hazel was born April 6, 1921 in Saumsville Virginia. She is the daughter of the late John D. and Esta Good Wilkins. Mrs. Artz was a faithful member of the Woodstock Christian Church. She married Marion Miley Artz and celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed in September 1991. Hazel was an industrious lady, maintaining her home and farm. She was quite the seamstress and won accolades for garments, both locally and at the Virginia Farm Bureau Women conventions. She was also chosen as one of the first “Outstanding Farm Bureau Woman of the Year” in Virginia. She received her GED when she was 65 years old. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence, William, Gilbert, Kirby, and Kenny Wilkins; sisters, Annabel Whitlock, Thelma (Jackie) Berry and Shirley Litten.

She is survived by her children, Jeni (Virginia) Owens and husband Bobby of Harrisonburg, Jean Whetzel and husband Jimmy of Woodstock, Annette Pierce and husband Dick of Timberville, and Michael Artz and wife Melinda of Woodstock; grandchildren, Jill Burch and husband Bill, Julie Keenan, John Whetzel and wife Cris, Robert Whetzel, Jay Whetzel and wife Cindy, Jon Pierce and wife Alison, Christy Magruder and husband Mike, Ryan, Elliott and Lydia Artz. Three step grandchildren, Justin Mauck Hill, Alison Eye, and Amanda Freund Richardson; 11 great grandchildren, Hunter and Colton Burch, Matthew Whetzel, Ashley Rhodes and husband David, Tony Whetzel, Joshua and Nicholas Whetzel, Jesse Pierce, Chloe, Maggie Magruder, 2 step granddaughters, Taylor and Kelsey Burch and 2 great-great grandchildren, Zoey and David Maison Rhodes; a brother, Cecil Wilkins of Texas, and a sister, Fleta W. Jenkins of Waynesboro Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
