Hoyt Eugene “Gene” Wilt

Hoyt Eugene “Gene” Wilt 70 of Maurertown, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at his home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012, 11:00 AM at the Maurertown Church of the Brethren by Pastor Richard Craver. Burial will follow at the Maurertown Cemetery.

Mr. Wilt was born on June 7, 1942 at Mathias, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Otis F. and Shirley E. Teets Wilt. In May of 1945, Gene began living under the foster care of Julia Moyers of Mathias, West Virginia where he lived until graduating from Mathias High School in June of 1960. He then entered the USAF to complete training and received additional training due to his Top Secret security clearance. He was assigned to USAF security services as a Morse Intercept Operator. He served as a flight crewmember with the 92nd B-52 Bomb Wing in Spokane, Washington. He was Honorable Discharged from the USAF in May of 1964.

Mr. Wilt was a member of the Mathias Church of the Brethren, McGaheysville Brethren Church, and Maurertown Brethren Church. He was a Life member of the NRA and numerous sportsman’s clubs and organizations. He was a life member of the Ruritans after beginning his membership in 1985. He was selected as the Outstanding Member of the St. Luke- Fairview Ruritan Club in 1985 and served as club President in 1988.Mr. Wilt was preceded in death by a brother Robert Wilt.

He is survived by a daughter, Tamarien Marie Flaten of Spokane, Washington, her significant other, Mr. Patrick Potter; a daughter, Christine Wilt O’Donnell of Winchester with her husband, Mr. Steven O’Donnell and his son, Brian; a son, Jeffrey Lee Wilt of Maurertown and his wife Mrs. Nena Grubb Wilt and his grand-daughter, Emmaline; a daughter, Anita Marie Wilt Richard of Maurertown, and his grand-daughter, Virginia; a son, Lawrence Eugene Wilt of Woodstock with Anna Marie Houghton, her son, Nick and his grand-daughter, Brooklyn; a sister, Loretta and her husband, Ray Secrist of Broadway; brothers, Lawrence F. Wilt and his wife, Linda of Bergton and their children, David Wilt and his wife, Patricia of Fairplay, SC and their children, Gary Wilt and his wife Nona of Strasburg and their children; a beloved companion, Judith Sullivan of Charlottesville.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock.

Pallbearers will be Tony Wilt, Keith Wilt, Nathan Pence, Anthony Cook, Cecil Cook, and Craig Grubb.

In Lieu of flowers, the requests the memorial contributions be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
