Irene Catherine Walter Fadely, 92, of Edinburg, Virginia, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, Virginia. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Old Union Forge United Methodist Church in Edinburg, Virginia. Pastor Glen Early will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the New Union Forge Church.
Mrs. Fadely was born March 1, 1923 in St. Davids Church, Virginia, daughter of the late Howard E. and Naomi C. Grandstaff Walter. She was a graduate and Salutatorian of Edinburg High School Class of 1941 and was formerly crowned Miss Edinburg. She was a member of Union Forge United Methodist Church.
Mamaw, as she was called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Having reared five children, she was a skilled homemaker whose tireless gifts of baking, sewing, gardening, sharing her wisdom, and loving her family laid the foundation and created a legacy for her family which continues today.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Brown Fadely; two sons, Gary Brown Fadely and Lewis Walter Fadely. She is survived by one son, Barry C. Fadely and his wife, Rebecca Beasley Fadely of Edinburg; three daughters, Donna Fadely Boone of Leesburg, Ella Catherine Fadely Dalke and her husband, J. Timothy Dalke of Woodstock and Meta Sue Wender and her husband, William M. Wender of Woodstock; one sister, Meta Walter Foltz and her husband, Burdette of Edinburg; daughter-in-law, Nancy Clark Fadely of Mt. Jackson; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters.
