Mrs. Jacklyn Cooper Hounshell, 97, of New Market, passed away Tuesday night, May 9, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. She was born May 3, 1920, in Statesville, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Meredith William and Julia Caroline Gentry Cooper.
Mrs. Hounshell and her husband were the owners and operators of the Valley Supermarket in New Market for over 30 years. She was a member of Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market.
On Dec. 15, 1936, she married Charles William Hounshell Sr., who died Oct. 3, 2006.
She is survived by a son, Charles William Hounshell Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters, H. Caroline Hounshell of New Market and Leslie Gentry Hounshell Harmon and her husband, Frank, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hounshell of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Cooper Hounshell.
The memorial service and interment will be private.
