James Brian Martin

James Brian Martin, 68 of New Market, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Creek Regular Baptist Church, New Market by Rev. Brent Hockema. Burial will follow at the Mount Jackson Cemetery.

Mr. Martin was born July 11, 1942 at Newark, New Jersey, the son of the late John Arnold Martin and Margarete Balascio Martin.

He retired as a MSGT with 20 years of service in the United States Army and retired from the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office as Corporal with 17 years of service. Jim had a passion for music and playing the guitar, enjoyed reading and spending time with family.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 24 years, Trudy Martin of New Market; a brother, John Arnold Martin, II of Cedar Grove, NJ; two daughters, Lori Martin of Alexandria and Marlaine Martin of Arlington; a grandson, Jimmy Martin and wife, Briana of Bealeton; and a great-granddaughter, Elise Martin; two step-sons, David Whorton and wife, Mylene of Flint Hill and Dan Whorton and wife, Kayelynn of Midland; a step-daughter, Christina Whorton of Edinburg; four step-grandchildren, Dan Whorton, Savanna Whorton, Alicia Whorton, and Hailey Whorton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Theis Funeral Home, New Market.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Smith Creek Regular Baptist Church, New Market or the New Market American Legion.
