James Lee Grandstaff

James Lee Grandstaff, 74, of Woodstock, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.  The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.  Reverend Ken Sparks will officiate.  Burial with military honors by Woodstock American Legion Post #199 will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Mr. Grandstaff was born March 18, 1942 in St. David’s Church in Fort Valley, son of the late Charles Edgar Grandstaff and Ethel Clem Grandstaff.  He was a 1960 graduate of Strasburg High School and an army veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a manager at Safeway where he worked for 38 years.  He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Woodstock. Woodstock American Legion Post #199, the Safeway Breakfast Group and the Vinh Long Outlaws.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia B. Grandstaff; three sons, Jeff Farnsworth and his wife Gail of Bridgewater, David Farnsworth and his wife Regina of Frederick, MD and Anthony Grandstaff and his wife Jessica of Strasburg; two sisters, Nancy Shrum of Maurertown, Janita Giles of Bunker Hill, WV; brother, Joseph Grandstaff of Harrisonburg and four grandchildren, Logan and Trevor Farnsworth and Kyle and Tyler Poage.

Pallbearers will be Gene Salmons, John Shrum, Barry Shrum, Ken Sparks Jr., Kaleb Sparks and Scott L’Heureux.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Woodstock American Legion Post #199.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1255 Hoover Road, Woodstock, VA 22664 or Woodstock American Legion, 411 S. Muhlenberg Street, Woodstock, VA 22664.

    Words alone cannot express the deep sorrow in hearing of his passing, Jimmy and I have been friends for over 50 years starting from Helicopter Maintance School Fort Eustis Va. in 1964, to our deployment to Vietnam in Sept. of 1964, I will miss the wonderful times together at Outlaw reunions, and the long distance conversations we would have.You will be missed Jimmy, May there be Large Flee Markets in heaven , and the Redskins win the NFL championship.
