Jerry Paul Miller, 64 of Edinburg passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at his home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Pastor John Taylor and Pastor Mark Bowyer will officiate. Honors will be conducted by the Virginia State Police and the American Legion Post #199.
Jerry was born January 14, 1951 in Woodstock at Miller’s Hospital. He was the son of the late Paul Henry and Helen Fry Miller. He was a 1969 graduate of Central High School. He was an Army Veteran serving in Germany during Vietnam. He started his Police career on March 11, 1974 under his mentor, Chief Garland Weaver. He became Chief of Police for Woodstock on November 1, 1981 and later retired on December 31, 2009. He was a member of Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren, the Woodstock American Legion post #199, Shenandoah County FOP, Woodstock Masonic Lodge Cassia #142, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen “Cookie” Miller who died in June 1986. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Keith Len Miller.
He is survived by his wife who he married on October 10, 1992, Betty Jean Hottle Miller; two step-sons, Darrin Davis and Michael Hottle; a step-daughter, Wendy Jean McInturff, and cousins, Mike Kline and wife Sarah and Ken Kline and wife Brenda.
Pallbearers will be Dale Painter, Porky Bowman, Eddie Rinker, Tyrone Fields, Robin Ebersole, and Jeff Coffelt. Honorary Pallbearers will be the past and present officers of the Woodstock Police Department.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wakeman’s Church of the Brethren, or Blue Ridge Hospice.
