Jewel H. Brice, “Julie”, 88, passed away Thursday, March 2 at her residence in Basye, VA.
Julie was born in Washington, DC July 3rd, 1928, daughter of the late Ben and Alma Rose Hayes of Congress Heights.
She was a graduate of Anacostia High School and attended George Washington University.
As a young girl, she spent several summers at Bryce’s Hillside Cottages, in Basye, VA, – first as a guest and later as a waitress. There she met her future husband, Paul “Pete” Bryce. They later developed the Resort from a summer destination, to a four season recreation center, Bryce Resort.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and her grandson, John.
Survivors include a son, Tom Brice and wife, Yancy, three daughters, Lee Ann Brice, Ellen Brice and Mary Rust and husband John Rust, three grandsons and four great grandchildren.
Julie was an avid gardener, floral designer, quilter, weaver, and lover of four legged creatures.
Julie cherished dearly her family, many friends and community.
Burial will be private.
