John Calvin Reynolds

John Calvin Reynolds, 92, of Maurertown, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011 at his home.  The funeral will be held Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church at Fairview.  Reverend Tim Nilsen will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Reynolds was born April 12, 1919 in Shenandoah County, son of the late Joseph Clinton and Florence Mae Gochenour Reynolds.  He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star.  He was a farmer and member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.  He was active in the 4-H, serving as former leader of the St. Luke-Saumsville 4-H Club and was active in the FFA.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Calvin and Alice Windle Gochenour and John and Amanda Cook Reynolds; and two sisters, Eula Swartz and Rachel Wetzel.

He is survived by his wife, Jaunita Quesenberry Reynolds whom he married on July 10, 1947 in Blacksburg, VA; two sons, Joseph Michael Reynolds Jr. and his wife Carla of Maurertown and Ronald Richard Reynolds and his wife Wilma of Maurertown; daughter, Judy Fay Reynolds of Maurertown; brother, Paul Reynolds and his wife, Evelyn of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Michelle Dawn Bulatko and her husband David, Joseph Michael Reynolds Jr. and his wife Becky, John Richard Reynolds and his wife Kellie, Jeanette Renee Reynolds, Michael Jones and Brandi Pirkle; ten great grandchildren, Cody Alan Bulatko, Colton Michael Bulatko, Joseph Michael Reynolds III, Travis Daniel Reynolds, Kacey Dawn Horn, Kaylee Nicole Waters, Krista Ann Waters, Colton Michael Jones, Carson Jones and Gracie Jones.

Pallbearers will be David Bulatko, Cody Bulatko, Colton Bulatko,  Howard Ortgies, Cliff Wetzel and Calvin Swartz.

Honorary pallbearers will be William Gochenour, Robert Gochenour, John Richard Reynolds, Bill Wetzel and Victor Copp.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601 or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 321, Woodstock, VA 22664.

    I will always remember Uncle Johnny’s smile and beautiful eyes. His eyes sparkled and seemed to be full of life. I bet Aunt Eula, Uncle Irving, Mom and him are having quite the conversation in heaven. I wish I could be in Virginia now, but know that the family is in my thoughts and prayers.
