Kathryn Mae Dunn, 90, of Woodstock, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in Woodstock. The funeral will be held Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodstock Presbyterian Church. Reverend Lisa Webb will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.
Mrs. Dunn was born January 17, 1925 in Burlington, NC, daughter of the late William J. and Edith M. Washam. She grew up in the Woodstock and Harrisonburg area and graduated as a registered nurse in 1945 from Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She was one of the original four nurses who were employed to open Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Dunn was a housewife but also worked many years in the Woodstock office of the Virginia Department of Forestry. She was a 50+year member of the Woodstock Presbyterian Church. In addition, she was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Women’s Club for many years. More recently she was active in the Red Hats Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Dunn and her brother, William J. Washam, Jr.
Kathryn is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Dunn Loar and her husband Charles Richard Loar; two sons, Lawrence Michael Dunn and wife, Janet and Robert Michael Dunn and wife, Julie; one brother, John Alan Washam and his wife, Doris; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.
