Larry Franklin “Pop Pop” Bowers

Larry Franklin “Pop Pop” Bowers, 64, of Maurertown, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home.  The funeral service will be held Monday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Pike Church of the Brethren.  Reverend Jonathan Fletcher will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bowers was born March 6, 1949 in Woodstock, son of Alfred Linden Bowers and Ethel Irene Ryman Bowers of Woodstock.  He worked for 27 years as an electrician for Ortts Electric and in the maintenance department for the Town of Woodstock for 16 years.  He was a member of valley Pike Church of the Brethren where he was a deacon and a member of the Servants of Christ Class.

Surviving, along with his parents, are his wife, Ellen Riffee Bowers; son, Jason Franklin Bowers of Maurertown; daughter, Connie Lynn Morris and husband Matthew of Maurertown; brother, Wayne E. Bowers and wife Debbie of Woodstock; two grandsons, Trevor Morris and Dakota Morris; numerous nephews and his cat, Max.

Pallbearers will be Buck Shrum, Jason Bowers, Donnie Feller, John Welsh, Ronnie Combs, Guy Gochenour.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Long, Paul Nesselrodt, Charlie Weaver, Daniel Bailey, Junior Ryman and Wayne Bowers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Valley Pike Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.

Larry was a hunter and gardener.  He loved to play dominos, work on tractors and tractor pulling.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
