Martha F. DeVito
Of Woodstock, Virginia and previously of Vienna, Virginia, died peacefully at her home from complications of cancer on July 6. She was 82. She is survived by a sister, Sara Bridges of Prattville Alabama, her two sons, Rob and Jeff, daughters in law, Betsy (Hynek) and Amy (Voss), and four grandchildren, Kristen DeVito Wever (Ryan), Sarah DeVito, Nicholas DeVito, and Michael DeVito. Martha was born in 1933 somewhere in Autauga County, Alabama and raised the last of eight children in nearby Prattville. Known affectionately by her family as “Tot” due to her small stature, Martha moved to Washington D.C. after high school working for the FBI and then at WTTG Channel 5 Television where she met her husband Joe. They moved to Vienna in 1957. While raising her boys in Vienna, she was employed at various places including United Virginia Bank, Yeonas Homes and Long and Foster as a realtor.
Martha moved to Shenandoah County in 2001, first living at Bryce Resort in Basye and finally in Woodstock where she was quite active in her Church and community.
Martha was a very caring, selfless woman, always thinking of others especially those less fortunate and in need. She was a devoted and giving mother and grandmother, and friend to many. She will be missed. Service will be held at Woodstock Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 9 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice.
