Colleen Moore Shutters

Mrs. Colleen Moore Shutters, 87, of Forestville passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at Life Care Center of New Market.

She was born December 11, 1924 in Greensboro, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Edgar Franklin and Letha Harris Moore.

Mrs. Shutters graduated from Gilford Business College, Greensboro, N.C. and attended classes at Virginia Tech and James Madison University.

She was a life member of the Cohee Garden Club and had served as chairperson for the Virginia State Board of Cosmetology.

During World War II she was a purchasing agent for the U.S. Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. Later she operated Colleen’s Beauty Shop at Forestville and taught cosmetology at Triplett Tech in Mt. Jackson.

Mrs. Shutters was a devoted and active member of Solomon’s Lutheran Church at Quicksburg.

On July 15, 1945 she married Paul Early Shutters who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Judith S. Ruby of Forestville, Dorothy S. Farley and husband, Phil of Winchester and Helen S. Lutz and husband, Hallie of Forestville; three brothers, E.F. Moore, Jr. of Greensboro, N.C., Milton Moore and Frank Moore both of Fla. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Moore and a sister, Lenida M. Bolen.

Pastor Susan L. Lance will conduct a funeral service 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Solomon Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dellinger Funeral Home at Mt. Jackson on Monday from 9 AM-5 PM.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Shutters name can be made to Solomon’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 71, Quicksburg, Va. 22847.

    I was a student of Mrs. Shutters in 69- early 70′s at Triplett Tech. She pushed me to be all that I could be. She was an amazing lady.
    I am sorry for her family’s loss and I know she will be missed.
    May she Rest in Peace.

    I just now found out about Colleen. I was just informed about Ruth Whistler and saw the listing for Colleen. I am so very sorry and saddened. Please know that I feel for you. We lost Daddy on January 19th of 2011, so it is very heavy on my heart. I want all of you to know that my love and my prayers are with you. You will always be in my heart.
