Mrs. Colleen Moore Shutters, 87, of Forestville passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at Life Care Center of New Market.
She was born December 11, 1924 in Greensboro, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Edgar Franklin and Letha Harris Moore.
Mrs. Shutters graduated from Gilford Business College, Greensboro, N.C. and attended classes at Virginia Tech and James Madison University.
She was a life member of the Cohee Garden Club and had served as chairperson for the Virginia State Board of Cosmetology.
During World War II she was a purchasing agent for the U.S. Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. Later she operated Colleen’s Beauty Shop at Forestville and taught cosmetology at Triplett Tech in Mt. Jackson.
Mrs. Shutters was a devoted and active member of Solomon’s Lutheran Church at Quicksburg.
On July 15, 1945 she married Paul Early Shutters who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Judith S. Ruby of Forestville, Dorothy S. Farley and husband, Phil of Winchester and Helen S. Lutz and husband, Hallie of Forestville; three brothers, E.F. Moore, Jr. of Greensboro, N.C., Milton Moore and Frank Moore both of Fla. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Moore and a sister, Lenida M. Bolen.
Pastor Susan L. Lance will conduct a funeral service 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Solomon Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dellinger Funeral Home at Mt. Jackson on Monday from 9 AM-5 PM.
