Muriel Lois Funkhouser

Muriel Lois Funkhouser, 82 of Woodstock passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Winchester Medical Center. Services will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Church of Columbia Furnace. Pastor Freddie Helsley and Pastor William Fitchett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00.

Muriel was born January 15, 1933 in Woodstock. She is the daughter of the late Edith and Fred B. Helsley and the late Melvin Hottle. She was a member of the Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the Columbia Furnace Community Club. She worked for the Lear Corporation for over 20 years as a trainer for molding. She loved working with her co-workers there at Lear. She loved baking, especially her bread, pies and cakes. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Funkhouser Sr. Also preceding her in death are 3 siblings, Janice Wisman, Betsy Helsley and James “Jimmy” Hottle.

Muriel is survived by 5 sons, Jerry Funkhouser of Edinburg, Gary Funkhouser and wife Mary of Edinburg, Melvin Funkhouser and wife Renae of Front Royal, James Funkhouser Jr, and wife Carolyn of Edinburg and Gregory Funkhouser of Woodstock; 1 daughter, Sheryl Funkhouser of Martinsburg WVA; 3 brothers, Freddie Helsley, Teddie, Helsley both of Woodstock, and Randy Helsley of Basye and 1 sister, Nancy Gioielli of Falls Church; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be, Nathan Helsley, Brent Funkhouser, Jamie Funkhouser, Matthew Funkhouser, Calvin Turashvili, Christopher McDaniel, Vincent Gioielli, and Zebadiah Dyer.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to St. Luke Brethren Church building fund c/o Rhonda Rau 3250 Back Rd. Woodstock, Virginia 22664 or Blue Ridge Hospice 333 W. Cork St. Winchester Virginia 22601.
