Peter Dieck Obituary

Retired US Army Colonel Peter Frederic Dieck

February 7, 1938 – March 7, 2024

Retired US Army Colonel Peter Frederic Dieck was called home to his Lord and Savior on March 7, 2024.

Peter was born in Cuxhaven, Germany to Heinz and Inge Dieck. He immigrated to the US in 1955 after completing high school and lived with family in Forestville, NY.

Peter is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lydia; his sister Ursula Nouvel and her husband Charles; his nephews Mark Nouvel and fiancée Julie Hanna, Lance Nouvel and wife Deborah (Missy), Sean Nouvel and wife Lynne; great nephews Liam Nouvel and Trevor Nouvel, great nieces Lauren Nouvel, Alexa Blevens and husband Matthew, and Lacey Nouvel as well as a great-great nephew, Sean (Lauren), and great-great nieces Chloe and Kiera (Lauren). He is also survived by Lydia’s niece Brigitte and her husband Hüsey Kota, and great niece Karena Mieze and her husband Jan.

He is predeceased by his parents as well as his stepfather, Thomas Taylor.

After a rewarding 28-year career in the US Army as a combat communicator, Peter retired as a Colonel and transitioned into the commercial satellite communications industry. He honed his technical and business skills at such companies as SAIC, E-Systems (Raytheon), COMSAT-RSI and INTELSAT before founding his own company, Telecommunications International Inc. in 1990. Peter directed the company's focus on the satellite communications space, engaging in the negotiation of Host Nation Agreements, satellite systems engineering, satellite space segment sales as well as management and administration of such. Peter steadily grew the company and earned the respect of many clients, contractors, and industry counterparts.

Peter and Lydia enjoyed summers in Basye, VA and winters in St. Petersburg, Florida. When annual retreats to Florida became too burdensome, they split their time between homes at Bryce Resort and Sunnyside Communities.

Peter was a Master Parachutist and a graduate of the Army's Communications-Electronics Systems Engineering Course, the Command & General Staff College, and the Army War College. His civilian education includes a BGS from the University of Nebraska and an MBA from the University of Missouri.

He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Basye, VA and the Basye Bryce Mountain Lions Club.

Arrangements are being directed by Dellinger Funeral Homes and funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 23, 11 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 319 Orkney Grade, Basye, VA.
