Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert William “Bob” Johnson, 64, of Edinburg, VA passed away on March 25, 2024 at his home. He was born in Woodstock, VA on July 11, 1959, the youngest son of the late Dr. L. G. “Doc” Johnson and Judith Eutsler Johnson.

When he was young, Bob was very active in the Woodstock community as a Boy Scout in Troop 55. He graduated from Central High School where he lettered in football and tennis. He and his doubles partner, Clyde Hunt, were State Runners-Up in the Group II, Single A Virginia High School League Tennis Championship in 1977 at James Madison University.

His professional career started at Newman Surveying in Mt. Jackson, VA.  Subsequently, he joined the Page County, VA Commissioner of Revenue’s Office as the Mapper for Page County, working there for ten years.  He was endlessly kind, with his big, memorable smile and welcoming spirit.  He enjoyed woodworking, playing tennis, visiting the national parks, and supporting his family and friends in any way he could.

In addition to his membership in the American Legion Muhlenberg Post #199, his best days were spent doing good deeds for others. His jovial nature was indispensable, always happy to take someone to the grocery store or assist a veteran by getting them to their doctor’s appointment. The joy of his life was his rescue dog, Max, who never left his side.

Robert is survived by three brothers, George (Rick) and his wife Starr of Luray, Tom of Max Meadows, and Frank of Waynesboro.  He is also survived by three nephews, John of Luray, Scott of Harrisonburg, and Brian of Edinburg.  A fourth nephew, Christopher, preceded him in death in 2009.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, 2677 Fravel Rd., Woodstock, VA  22664.

To honor his memory, contributions may be made to the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter, 268 Landfill Rd., Edinburg, VA  22824.
