Pete George

Pete George, 92 of Edinburg, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Dutch Haven Adult Care. Services will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Burial will follow at St. Luke Cemetery. Pastor Katie Gosswein and Pastor John Taylor Jr., will officiate.  Visitation will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015  from 6pm-8pm at the funeral home.

Pete was born July 27, 1922 on his grandfather’s farm in Liberty Furnace, VA. He was the son of the late Charles Homer and Millie Foltz George. He was a member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church where he served on the council for many years. He was a 1942 graduate of Edinburg High School.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific with the 754th Tank Battalion receiving the rank of Corporal. He drove the ambulance vehicle during the war. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Philippine Liberation Service medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Occupation Ribbon. After retiring from Avtex after 40 years, he settled down and enjoyed his passions of farming and wood cutting. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Alma Gladys Carper George. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Shirley George and a grandson, Jason Lam.

Pete is survived by 4 children, Sharon George of Lorton, Gary George and wife Dianne of Conicville, Rhonda George and fiancé Helmut Pusch of Fairfax and Bobbi Lynn Ward and husband Scott of Edinburg; 9 grandchildren, Michael Kingree, Pete Kingree, Dana George Lisico, Aimee R. George, Briana Hedden, James Montgomery, Chris Lam, Casey Ward, and Christian Ward, and 10 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be, Chris Lam, James Montgomery, Casey Ward, Christian Ward, Helmut Pusch, and Charles George.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church WELCA, P.O Box 175 Edinburg, Virginia 22824 or Columbia Furnace Community Club, C/o Patricia Ryman, 2123 Back Road Woodstock, Virginia 22664.

    I volunteered with Pete many years at the Union Hall bingo games in Front Royal to raise money for scholarships and other needy causes. Pete was a man’s man as the saying goes and his family has a right to be proud of him. I respected him and will never forget him.
