Richard Lee Wakeman, 66, of Woodstock, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at his home. The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Reverend Bob Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock.
Mr. Wakeman was born May 3, 1946 in Woodstock, son of Iva Kibler Wakeman of Woodstock and the late Alfred Leslie Wakeman. He retired in 2009 after 34 years with Mt. Jackson VDOT. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and the Wesley Chapel-St. John’s Methodist Men. He was a life member of Cassia Masonic Lodge in Woodstock, member of Hunter Lodge in Edinburg and the Scottish Rites. Richard was involved with the Shenandoah County Fair all of his life. He served as a member the Shenandoah County Fair Association Board of Directors for the past 20 years. He was a founding and charter member of Massanutten Antique Tractor Club.
Surviving, along with his mother are his fiancée, Janet Heishman; his brother, Linden Wakeman and his wife, Gloria of Woodstock and their children: Teddy and Michel Wakeman and their children, Chelsea and Anthony of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tena Wakeman Miller (dec’d) and her son, Daniel and wife Sheree and their daughters, Angela and Dixie, and Timmy Wakeman and wife Janine and their children, Sean and Mary Ellen; special cousin, Terry Lee Kibler and numerous other cousins.
Pallbearers will be Kenny, Ronnie, Gary, Dennis, Gilbert and Scott Wakeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mt. Jackson VDOT, Shenandoah Co. Fair Association, Massanutten Antique Tractor Club and Wesley Chapel-St. John United Methodist Men.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. A Masonic service will begin at 6:30.
