Rita “Pat” Lucille Lillard Dotson

Rita “Pat” Lucille Lillard Dotson, 73, of Quicksburg, VA, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her sons on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was born on April 15, 1944 in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Falls Church and Fairfax, VA. She was the daughter of the late William Maurice and Lucille Blair Lillard.

Pat graduated from Bridgewater College in 1966. In 1967 she wed Thomas Henry Dotson to whom she was married for 33 years. They lived most of their life in Floyd, VA, where they raised their four sons: William, David, Mark and Bruce. Pat taught French at Floyd County High School for five years and then fifth and sixth grades at Check Elementary School. In 1992 they moved to Spring Valley Farms in Quicksburg, VA, where they raised cattle. In Shenandoah County Pat taught a variety of subjects at Peter Muhlenberg Middle School including: French, Math, Social Studies, and Language Arts. She retired from teaching in 2006. After retirement Pat enjoyed riding four wheelers with her grandchildren, growing a vegetable garden, canning, and spending time with her family whom she loved with all her heart.

She is survived by her brother, William “Bill” Lillard, Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Oakton, VA. Her four sons, William of Floyd; David and his wife Pam of Fincastle; Mark and his wife Karen of New Market; Bruce and his wife Samantha of Quicksburg; eight grandchildren, Michael and his wife Jessica of Newport; Luke of Fincastle; Amanda and Andrew “Nick” of New Market; Judah, Shiloh, Asher and Naomi of Quicksburg; and three nephews William “Billy”,  Sean and Jason Lillard of Northern Virginia.

The body was cremated at Pat’s request. The family will receive friends at Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson on Friday, November 3rd, at 6:00 p.m.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 4th at the Dellinger Funeral Home with Chaplain Scott Crannell officiating. A celebration of life luncheon will immediately follow at the Forestville-Quicksburg Community Center, 51 Quicksburg Rd, Quicksburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to the RMH Foundation Hospice, 2010 Health Campus Dr, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or the America Cancer Society.
