Robert Hope Hines

Robert Hope Hines, 78, of Mt. Jackson, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Sentara R.M.H. Medical Center, Harrisonburg.

He was born February 18, 1936 in Columbia Furnace, son of the late Clarence Andrick Hines, Sr. and Hazel Mae Ritchie Hines.

Robert (Bobby) was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a young man and served during the Korean War. He retired from Safeway Stores after 32 years of service and spent some of his retirement free time enjoying his favorite pastimes of hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean Dellinger Hines whom he married November 14, 1958. Also surviving are a son, Jeffery Hines of Mt. Jackson; a daughter, Susan Smith and husband Richard of Marshall; three grandsons, Tyler Smith of Marshall, Matthew Smith of Charlotte, NC and Anthony Smith of Radford. Also surviving are two brothers, Clarence Hines, Jr. of Columbia Furnace and Kenneth Hines and wife Kitty of Mt. Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and brother and sister in laws.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three half-brothers, Marshal L., Clyde D. and Sidney D.; and two brothers, Erston D. of Strasburg and Donald K. of Wilmington NC.

Funeral services will be held at Christ United Church of Christ at Conicville on Friday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Conicville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home, Mt. Jackson.
