Robert Lynn Williamson

Robert Lynn Williamson, May 27, 1925- February 6, 2018, 92 years old, passed away at Greenfield Senior Living, Woodstock, VA. Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Lutz Williamson.  Survived by his children, Charlotte (Robert) Goering, John Williamson, Penelope Cottrell, Robert (Candice) Williamson and Mary (Steve) Wilson. Also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie (Sotiris Pagdadis) Hogue, Christopher (Jennifer) Hogue, John Cottrell, Ben (Catherine), Sara Marie, and Nathan Williamson, Will, Spencer, and Natalie Wilson; great-grandchildren Henry Cottrell, Andreas, Nikolas and Emmanuella Pagdadis, and Luke and Norah Williamson. He is also survived by two siblings, Frank (Hilda) Williamson and Barbara Jean Boley. Bob was born to Charles Wood Williamson and Lola Mae Gollehon in Vinton, Virginia, both deceased. Two siblings, Elizabeth Savage and Charles Williamson, also preceded him in death.

He was especially proud of his education at Virginia Military Institute (Class of 48A) and serving as a 1st LT in the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany and the Korean War. He later obtained his M.A. at Virginia Commonwealth University.  Most of his career was Director of School Planning and Construction for Chesterfield County.

After retiring from the county, Bob and Mary Ann moved back to her home town of Edinburg. Bob served many years on the town council, and as a couple they were involved in the Edinburg Heritage Foundation and their church, Emanuel Lutheran in Woodstock. The family is very grateful to the staff of Greenfield Senior Living for their support and care.

A private funeral service will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 127 E High Street, Woodstock, VA 22664 or to The VMI Alumni Foundation, Neikirk Hall, 304 Letcher Avenue, PO Box 932, Lexington, VA 24450.
