Sarah Elizabeth Swartz Walker, 88, of Woodstock, Virginia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 at her home in Woodstock after a prolonged illness. She was the daughter of Marion S. Swartz, Sr. and Altha S. Swartz, both deceased. She is survived by her husband, Herbert W. Walker; three children, Harry W. Walker and wife Debbie of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Alice W. Hartman and husband Ben of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Doris W. Frazier and Le of Richmond, Virginia; four grandsons, Scott Hartman and wife Charlotte of Carmel, Indiana; Chad Hartman of Austin, Texas; Shawn Walker and wife Kelcey of Coalhurst, Canada; and Eric Walker and wife Megan of Richmond, Virginia. She has nine great-grandchidren, four nieces, two nephews and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Swartz and Marion Swartz, Jr.
Sarah was a caring daughter, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the United Methodist Church before she met a Lutheran who became the love of her life. They celebrated their 69th anniversary on Sunday, August 12. She was a National 4-H All Star, a longtime member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher for the little tots, President of the St. Luke Lutheran Ladies Aid Circle, Co-Proprietors of Walker’s Cash Store for over 30 years, a vegetable and flower gardener, an extensive transportation service provider for anyone in need and a volunteer at large.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 15, from 7-8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Mary Louise Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.
Pallbearers will be Eric Walker, Shawn Walker, Scott Hartman, Chad Hartman, Cliff Wetzel and Steve Wetzel. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Mullikin, Barry Sweitzer and Guy Wetzel.
