Wendle James Greene

Wendle James Greene, 79 of Mt. Jackson, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 .

Mr. Greene was born December 15, 1932 in Elmhurst, Illinois, son of the late Dudley and Dorothy Davis Green.

He served six years in the United States Navy. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Greene was a life member of the Mt. Jackson Rescue Squad and served as Captain for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Miller Greene of Mt. Jackson; four daughters, Susan Greene, Carol Greene, Sandra Painter and husband Dale, all of Mt. Jackson, and Leslie Hoover and husband Billy of Stephens City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Colby Greene of Frederick, MD, Kelsey Bowman and husband Jaime of Mt. Jackson, Aaron Painter of Woodstock, Heath Painter of Mt. Jackson, Jason Painter of Winchester, Justin Hoover of West Palm Beach, FL, Nicolas and Brogan Hoover of Stephens City; and two great grandsons, Lynden and Kylen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with the Rev. Olivia Kincaid Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Jackson Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Jackson Rescue and Fire Department.

The family will receive family and friends after the service at the Mt. Jackson Rescue and Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Mt. Jackson Rescue and Fire Department, P.O. Box 251, Mt. Jackson, VA 22842.
