Winifred Gail Shipe Chastain, 52, gently passed away on Wednesday April 22, 2015 at the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, Martinsburg, West Virginia. With family at her side, she left us for a place of peace and comfort.
She leaves behind her daughter Elizabeth Chastain, granddaughter Emily, sister and spouse Debbie and Fred Silverman, brother, George Shipe, sister, Rebecca Tax, sister Nora Shipe, and many nieces and nephews.
Winnie was raised in Upper Marlboro, Md., and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1980. She made a career in the United States Air Force. After her military duty, she resided in Woodstock, Va and ultimately Martinsburg, West Virginia.
She was a loving and devoted mother. She enjoyed family, spending much time with her parents. She was a loving and generous soul, offering lasting words of wisdom and always a laugh, to friends and family.
A graveside service will be held in her memory on Thursday April 30 at 2 pm at Edinburg Cedarwood Cemetery. Her ashes will be buried with her infant son Ray and loving parents, George and Nancy Shipe. A special thanks to the caregivers and the 11th hour Angels in the hospice unit Community Living Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
