Carole Golden Obituary

Carole Ann Golden, 88, widow of Richard Golden and mother of seven children died August 2, 2021 from a fall at her home in Basye, VA.

Carole was an active member of Bryce Resort for more than 30 years. She participated through various volunteer roles at the resort during her membership. She was a valued member of the Bryce community
who was quick to donate to worthy causes that helped those in the community, especially the Orkney Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Carole was born Carole Ann Rowser on September 18, 1932 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She grew up in Michigan. Her family moved to Cottonwood, AZ when she was a teenager, but they moved back to Michigan a few years later when her parents divorced.

Carole attended a Catholic boarding school for high school and attended Central Michigan for her first two years of college before transferring to and graduating from Michigan State with a degree in journalism. She worked at a local television station writing commercials and jingles in Detroit and New Orleans right after college. A job at the Wall Street Journal brought Carole to Washington, DC where she met and married Dick Golden in 1957. They proceeded to have seven children.

Through the mid 1960's and 70's, Carole was the head elections registrar at George Mason Regional Library in Fairfax County, VA. She was instrumental in helping citizens register to vote in local, state and
national elections. During her tenure, she assured that no eligible voter was turned away from their lawful right to vote--for any reason.

Carole worked as an office manager for many years in the 1980's at the Fairfax Hospital Association in Springfield, VA.

Dick and Carole purchased a house a Bryce Resort with their friends in 1988 and started visiting on weekends. In 1991, they retired and made Bryce Resort their home.

Carole loved Jack Russell Terriers, and owned and bred them for years in the 1980's. When she moved to Basye, she became an active volunteer with the Humane Society of Shenandoah County to foster and find homes for Jack Russell Terriers in need of rescue. Her dogs brought her joy for years until the last one passed away recently.

Carole's survivors include her younger brother, Paul Finch of Phoenix, AZ; seven children: Michael Golden of Centreville, VA (her favorite), Terence Golden of Vienna, VA (also her favorite), Martha Golden of Annandale, VA (also her favorite), Kevin Golden of Annandale, VA (also her favorite), Joseph Golden of Southport, NC (also her favorite), Maureen Golden of Springfield, VA (also her favorite) and Richard Golden of Reston VA (also her favorite); and six grandchildren -- Elieza, Maggie, Joanna, Daniel,
Celia and Caitlin (each one, her favorite).

A remembrance service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 14 at Dellinger Funeral Home,5997 Main Street, Mount Jackson, VA 22842 (see Dellinger Facebook page for Live Stream information). In lieu of flowers, Carole requested donations be made to the Humane Society of Shenandoah County, P.O.
