David Albert McClanahan Sr.

David A. McClanahan, Sr. 93 of Fort Valley passed away Wednesday November 21, 2018 in Charlottesville. Services will be Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church. Pastor Katie Gosswein will officiate. Burial will follow in Samuel Walters Cemetery. David was born May 23, 1925 in Fort Valley. He was the son of the late Mertie and Maude Clem McClanahan. David was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He served under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. He also landed at Normandy. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. David retired from the Us Government working for the Department of Defense. He was a member of the Edinburg VFW Post #2447 and the Woodstock American Legion Post # 199. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. David was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Katherine McClanahan. David is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Dovel McClanahan, 2 sons, David Albert McClanahan, Jr. and wife Denise of Woodbridge and Fred Edgar McClanahan of Front Royal; a daughter, Margorie McClanahan of Woodbridge; 3 sisters, Mary Ann Huffman, Elsie Nelson and Thelma Mathias; a brother, Howard McClanahan; 4 grandchildren, Gina McClanahan, Freddie McClanahan, Forrest McClanahan and Raymond Jewell; 4 great grandchildren, Richard Liam Thomas, David Aiden Thomas, Madylan Thomas and Brooks David McClanahan. Pallbearers will be, Terry Plauger, Franklin Plauger, Brian Huffman, Kelly Shipe, Charles Aschmann and John Ciccarelli. The family will receive friends Monday, November 26, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Faith Lutheran Roof Fund P.O.
