Guy Raymond Wetzel

Guy Raymond Wetzel, 93, of Woodstock passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Memory Lane Assisted Living in Woodstock VA. Guy was born in Woodstock on December 4, 1922, to the late William Luther and Mary Ellen Gochenour Wetzel. Guy was married on December 4, 1945, to Rachel Rebecca Reynolds Wetzel, at the Mt Zion Lutheran Church at Fairview. Guy is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Rebecca Reynolds Wetzel. Guy is survived by six children, Carolyn Kipps and husband, Wayne, of New Market; Winnie Wilkins and husband, Joe, of New Market; William C. Wetzel and wife, Donna, of Woodstock; Cliff Wetzel of Woodstock; Stephen G. Wetzel and wife, Pip, of Woodstock; and Becky Sheffield of Flint Hill, VA; twelve grandchildren, Carrie Souder and husband, Jeff; Mark Kipps and wife, Christy; Kim Emerson and husband Brent, Chris Wilkins, J.C. Wetzel, Tim Wetzel, Laura Wetzel, Ben Wetzel, Kelly Wilson and husband Bobby; Stacie Markel and husband, Keith; David Sheffield and Jacob Sheffield; six great-grandchildren, Adam and Ashley Souder, Mackenzie Emerson, Lauren Markel, Bruce Wetzel and David Kipps. He is also survived by sister Ruth Shaver, and brothers Wayne Wetzel, Landon Wetzel. He was preceded in death by his brothers Allen Wetzel, and George Wetzel. Guy was a Trustee and life-long member of Mt Zion Lutheran Church at Fairview, and a member of the Woodstock Men’s Prayer Group. He was on the Board of Directors of Shenandoah Mutual Fire Insurance Company and Shenandoah County Farm Bureau. He served on the Board of a local bank in Woodstock. Guy was past President of the Shenandoah County Fair Association. He was a local farmer and huckster in the greater Washington, DC area for over 44 years. Throughout his lifetime he was an advocate for agriculture in Shenandoah County. A visitation will be held at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock on Friday, October 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m. by Pastor Joe Fleming. Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chris Wilkins, Mark Kipps, J.C. Wetzel, Tim Wetzel, Ben Wetzel and Randy Hoover. The family will also receive friends at the home of Steve and Pip Wetzel, 740 Eagle Street, Woodstock. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Luke’s Back Pack Program, c/o Mt Zion Lutheran Church, 3055 Fairview Road, Woodstock or to Mt Zion Lutheran Church in c/o Mrs. Katrina Swartz, 856 Coffman Rd., Edinburg, Virginia 22824.
