Lloyd Gochenour Obituary

Lloyd Gochenour, 91, of Edinburg, VA passed away Monday, September 14, 2015 at Greenfield of Woodstock, VA. Services will be held Thursday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunrise Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg, VA. Pastor Richard Wehrle will officiate and Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Heights Community Church in Roanoke, VA (formerly Virginia Heights Baptist Church). Pastor Nelson Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA.

Mr. Gochenour was born November 6, 1923 in Hamburg, VA., son of the late Oscar Melvin and Lucy Mae Gochenour. He was a graduate of Woodstock High School, Moody Bible Inst. and Bridgewater College. He owned and operated WSGM/WAFC in Staunton, WRIS/WJLM in Roanoke and WXGI in Richmond and produced shows such as Little Country Church, New Years Eve WatchnightService, Radio Family Chat and Back Home Hour. He was a longtime Deacon and teacher of the Men's Fellowship Sunday School Class at Virginia Heights Baptist Church. He was a director and member of Shenandoah Valley Gosp. Assn., founder of Peoples Baptist Church, director and owner of Camp Fair Haven, founder of the Caring and Helping Hands Thrift Store, member of the Roanoke Lions Club and volunteer Chaplain for over 20 years at Rescue Mission of Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret H. Gochenour and brothers and sisters, Jacob Gochenour, Louise Klees, Allen Gochenour, Irving Gochenour, Harry Gochenour, his twin Lois Gochenour, Richard Gochenour and Ray Gochenour.

Lloyd is survived by his son, John L. Gochenour of Roanoke; daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Gochenour of Edinburg; two brothers, Carroll Gochenour of Woodstock and Marvin Gochenour of Ocala, FL and sister, Lodema Lindamood of Edinburg.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, September 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Oakey's South Chapel in Roanoke.

The family would like to thank Our Lady of the Valley, Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Greenfield Assisted Living, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Gentle Shepherd Hospice and Sentara Hospice. A special thanks to Linda Jenkins and Della Wheeling for all of their help and support over the years.
