Lorraine Boyer Zirkle, 91 of Edinburg passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Services will be Monday, December 10, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at St. John's United Methodist Church, Edinburg, VA. Pastor Chris Seiders will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
Lorraine was born April 6, 1927 in Fort Valley. She was the daughter of the late Ezra and Elsye Golladay Boyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (Mike) W. Zirkle; a brother, James Boyer; a sister, Betty Ludwig and a grandson, Jason Smith.
After graduating Edinburg High School, at the age of 16, she lived with a dear aunt in Washington, D.C. area where she worked at the U.S. Treasury Bureau during World War II. In the 1950's she was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club where she honed her love of cooking and sewing. For 32+ years, Shenandoah Telephone Company reaped the benefits of her talents in customer service. She served on the board of the Edinburg Historical Foundation and was recently named Board Member Emeritus. She was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Edinburg Old Time Festival. A lifelong member of the Church of God in Fort Valley, she served as Sunday School Treasurer for years.
Known to all as a sweet and kind lady, always with a smile.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Georga Bracken of New Market and Rebecca Zirkle of Edinburg; a sister, Natalie Blackwell of Chesterfield and 3 grandsons, Jeremy Rhoades and Devon and William Smith. 4 great-grandsons, Micah, Levi, James and Matthew Smith, 1 great-granddaughter Allean Smith and her faithful companion and guardian, Zeke.
