Ora Lee Hepner

Ora Lee (Hotinger) Hepner, a resident of Greenfield of Woodstock, passed away on June 29, 2022, at the age of 99. She was born in Collierstown, Virginia to Ray W. Hotinger and Ora Montgomery Hotinger on January 4, 1923. Mrs. Hepner is survived by four children, Sandra Lee Mann (William), Larry Link Hepner (Cheryl), Donna Lynne Hepner (Stephen Von Wald) and Michael Leonard Hepner (Shannon); eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Eugene Hepner; three sisters, Lillian Morrison, Allene Cummings, and Carrie Hannah Hotinger; three brothers, Wilton, Kenton, and Eugene Hotinger; and one half-sister, Nancy Sheldon. She is survived by three half-sisters, Mildred Huffman and Nellie Leech (both of Lexington, Virginia) and Ruby Brankley (of Richmond, Virginia).
Mrs. Hepner attended James Madison College, graduating in 1944 with a B.S. in Home Economics. She taught home economics for three years in Strasburg, Virginia and eight years in Warren County, Virginia. After her marriage to Mr. Hepner, they lived in Maryland where she taught elementary school and earned her M.S. in Elementary Education at the University of Maryland. She was awarded Honors at both James Madison College and the University of Maryland. After a teaching career of 29 years, Mrs. Hepner retired to the Shenandoah Valley with her husband, where she pursued her many interests, including bowling, bridge and investing in the stock market. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
Services will be held at Emanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00 am, 127 E. High Street, Woodstock, Virginia with interment immediately following at Sunset View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive guests at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am. Following interment, there will be a celebration of Mrs. Hepner’s life with a meal and fellowship in the church Fellowship Hall.
