Harlan David Greer, formerly of Marion, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023, in the home of his son Johnny L. Greer in Woodstock, Virginia. He was born in Johnson County, Tennessee on January 8, 1936, a son of the late Roby Lee Greer and Viller M. Lewis Greer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving stepmother, Pauline Greer; one son, Harlan David Greer, Jr.; two grandsons Johnny Barr Jr. and Scott Cook; and seven brothers, Robert Greer, Jess Greer, Albert Greer, Howard Greer, Spencer Greer, Harold Greer, and Elmer Greer; two sisters, Opal Greer, and Ruth Dolinger.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He resided in Marion, Virginia after retiring from his second career with the City of Fairfax. He enjoyed preaching, singing, and had a passion for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, married to Eula Greer (Dolinger) for 66 years.
Harlan is survived by his loving wife, Eula Greer; three sons, Clarence Greer, Johnny Greer, and Timmy Greer; one daughter, Bonnie Greer; two sisters, Betty Pennington, and Mary Anderson; 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Dellinger Funeral Home, 159 N Main St., Woodstock, VA. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Greer and Rev. Brian Walls officiating. The interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Blue Ridge Hospice are suggested.
