Mildred Eunice Sturmer, age 92, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully October 8, 2023, in the arms of loving family. She was born January 15, 1931, in Keystone, Oklahoma to Marvin and Mary Ellen Wilson. In 1954, she married Alex Roman Sturmer, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Mildred and Alex raised their five children, Karen, Laura, Susan, Greg, and Andy in Pleasanton, California. She lived the last ten years in Virginia with her daughter.
Ask anyone who knew Mildred briefly or for years what she was like, and you would hear the same words – loving, compassionate, faithful, and accepting. She not only loved her family dearly, but also her friends and her coworkers from Lawrence Livermore National Lab where she worked for 40 years. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, her pets, and, most of all, ice cream.
Mildred is survived by her sister Darlene Contos (John), her children Karen Johnson, Laura Sturmer, Susan Matyuf (Matthew), Greg Sturmer (Renee), and Andy Sturmer (Susanna), 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mildred’s funeral will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1pm, at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Ashburn, VA (20937 Ashburn Rd., Suite 110) followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. She will be interred at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in California with her husband at a date to be determined, where we will celebrate her life.
