Robert Irvin Windle, 86 of Woodstock passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Services will be at Dellinger Funeral Homes, Woodstock on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens. Pastor Glen Early will officiate. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service from 1-2 P.M.
Robert was born in Toms Brook on May 22, 1937, the son of the late Samuel and Violet Bauserman Windle. He graduated from Toms Brook High School in 1955. He worked as a truck driver, charter bus driver, and lastly for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Also, for much of his life, he raised cattle and horses and participated in pony harness racing, winning many ribbons throughout this time. He enjoyed camping, farming, and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Not one to sit around in retirement, Robert was frequently going for drives throughout the Valley, particularly to enjoy the scenery and his favorite eateries. He was a member of Columbia Furnace United Methodist Church.
Special recognition goes to his friends he met for coffee early every morning at McDonalds who kept him up to date on local gossip. Raise a cup in his memory fellas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann (Artz) Windle, and a sister, Helen (Windle) Mumaw.
He is survived by his wife Donna Kay Windle, 3 daughters, Deborah Ritenour and her husband Fred, Donna Huntsberger and her husband John, and Bobbie Jean Webster and her husband Karson; 2 stepchildren, Gregory Andes and his wife Linette, and Cindy Stauff and her husband Kelly, 5 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 step great grandson.
