Mary Magdalene Edmonds

June 6, 2021

Mary Magdalene Edmonds of Toms Brook passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at her home. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Christian Newcomer Church in Toms Brook. Reverend Nip Crites will officiate. Burial will follow in Toms Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-11 A.M. on Thursday at the church. Mary was the daughter of the late Clarence and Blanche Palmer Lichliter. Born and raised in Toms Brook, she graduated from Toms Brook High School in 1940, and was a life-long member of The Christian Newcomer Church. Over the years she held roles as treasurer, choir director, and Sunday School teacher. She worked for the Shenandoah County Schools as a teacher’s Aide and helped with the special education for the schools and worked at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church Day Care Center. She also worked in food service at Valley Diner, Virginia Restaurant, and Blue Bell in Strasburg. Mary was a tremendous provider and caregiver to people and animals alike. An excellent cook and baker, she frequently hosted large gatherings and insisted on preparing all of the food making sure there was an assortment of desserts. Guests were not allowed to leave her home with an empty stomach. She cared for countless animals in her lifetime, never one to turn away an animal in need. She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Ruby, a sister, Katherine Bright, and three grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Daniel “Danny” Edmonds; 3 sons, James Ruby and wife America of Spotsylvania, Ronald Ruby of Strasburg, David Edmonds and wife Kathy of Maurertown; a daughter, Candice Eppard of Woodstock; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at Sweet Souls and Emporium and Animal Rescue 301 West Court Street Woodstock, Virginia 22664, or Blue Ridge Hospice 333 West Cork Street Winchester, Virginia 22601.
